Crossword Genius

Present mounted and secured (3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

won

'secured' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'present mounted' is the wordplay.
'present' becomes 'now' (both can mean the current period).
'mounted' says the letters should be written in reverse (in a down clue, letters mounted up).
'now' back-to-front is 'WON'.

'and' is the link.

(Other definitions for won that I've seen before include "prevailed" , "and 26: Chinese dumpling" , "Eastern currency" , "Came first" , "Succeeded, conquered" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
