Presentation meant to reach friend shortly (6)
I believe the answer is:
format
'presentation' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'reach friend shortly' is the wordplay.
'reach' becomes 'for' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'friend' becomes 'mate' (mate is a kind of friend).
'shortly' means to remove the last letter.
'mate' with its last letter removed is 'mat'.
'for'+'mat'='FORMAT'
'meant to' is the link.
This may not be correct. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for format that I've seen before include "Design, lay-out" , "Way in which something is presented" , "The size and shape of something" , "Shape and style as of book" , "magazine" .)
