Press stories left out examples of subtle humour (7)
I believe the answer is:
ironies
'humour' is the definition.
(I know this)
'press stories left' is the wordplay.
'press' becomes 'iron' (ironing is a kind of pressing).
'stories' becomes 'sei' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'left' is a reversal indicator.
'sei' written backwards gives 'ies'.
'iron'+'ies'='IRONIES'
'out examples of subtle' is the link.
This may not be right. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Another definition for ironies that I've seen is " Satires".)
