Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I can't understand how one could define the other.

'queries to be resolved with priest' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
an anagram of 'queries' is 'erequis' which is within the answer.
an anagram of 'priest' is 'prites' which is within the remaining letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
