Profane lecturer quit - hitting whisky again? (4)
I believe the answer is:
anew
'again?' is the definition.
(synonyms)
'profane lecturer quit hitting whisky' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'whisky' could be 'w' (phonetic alphabet: alpha, bravo, charlie etc.) and 'w' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ane' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

(Other definitions for anew that I've seen before include "Again but differently" , "From the beginning again" , "Once more (poetic)" , "Afresh" , "Wane in a different way, again" .)
