I believe the answer is:

'property lists' is the definition.
(register of properties owned by someone)
'alternative to split loaves?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'split' could be 'rent' (past tense of 'rend' meaning to split) and 'rent' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'rolls' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
