Provoke supporters on course verbally (5)
I believe the answer is:
tease
'provoke' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'supporters on course verbally' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'course' could be 'tea' (I have seen 'Refresher course' mean 'tea' so perhaps 'course' could also mean 'tea') and 'tea' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'se' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for tease that I've seen before include "Torment for fun" , "Torment lightly" , "Comb or card (wool)" , "Josh" , "Banter, make gentle fun of" .)
