Crossword Genius

Psycho infuriated by colonist's yes-man (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

sycophant

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'yes-man' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'psycho infuriated by colonist's' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
an anagram of 'psycho' is 'sycoph' which is within the answer.
'colonist' could be 'ant' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'ant' is present in the answer.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for sycophant that I've seen before include "I'm obsequious" , "obsequious one" , "Uriah Heep, say" , "Servile flatterer" , "Crawler, toady" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Mail.
