Crossword Genius

Pulls off and the point breaks (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

wrests

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'pulls off' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with contact as well as being verbs in their -s form.
Maybe there's a link between them I don't understand?

'the point breaks' is the wordplay.
'the point' becomes 'W' (West).
'breaks' becomes 'rests' (rest is a kind of break).
'w'+'rests'='WRESTS'

'and' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for wrests that I've seen before include "Seizes forcibly" , "Takes" , "Obtain by seizing forcibly or violently" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
