I cannot really see how this works, but
'singular' could be 's' (abbreviation sometimes used in dictionaries) and 's' is located in the answer.
'drivel' could be 'rot' (rot is a kind of drivel) and 'rot' is present in the remaining letters.
A single letter 'f' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
