Put down to do more evening work? (7)
I believe the answer is:
repress
'put down' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'do more evening work?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'work?' could be 'press' (press is a kind of work) and 'press' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 're' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'to' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for repress that I've seen before include "bottle up" , "Forcibly keep down" , "keep back" , "Subdue" , "Curb" .)
