Puts it on without being told? (7)
I believe the answer is:
assumes
'puts' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both related to thinking as well as being verbs in their -s form.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?
'it on without being told?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'it' could be 'e' ('e' can mean 'electronic' which is similar to 'IT') and 'e' is found in the answer.
'being' could be 'ms' (Ms. is an example) and 'ms' is located in the leftover letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for assumes that I've seen before include "Takes for granted or puts on" , "Take to be the case" , "Takes to be the case" , "dons" , "Puts on; accepts" .)
