Quietly done up and put in position (6)
I believe the answer is:
placed
'in position' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'quietly done up and' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'quietly' could be 'p' (p for piano and quiet) and 'p' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'laced' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'put' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for placed that I've seen before include "In the first three" , "Set" , "Came second or third" , "Positioned" , "Put, situated" .)
