Quotations to scatter wildly around when you get cross? (8)
I believe the answer is:
extracts
'quotations' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'scatter wildly around when you get cross?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'around' could be 'c' (abbreviation for 'circa') and 'c' is present in the answer.
'when' could be 'e' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'e' is found in the answer.
'cross?' could be 'x' (an X is a cross) and 'x' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'trats' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'to' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for extracts that I've seen before include "Draws out portions of books" , "Parts taken out" , "Takes out pieces from the text" , "Passages taken from, say, books" , "Passages from books, etc." .)
