Crossword Genius

Ravenous guy, empty, wolfs venison that's turned (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

greedy

'ravenous' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'guy empty wolfs venison that's turned' is the wordplay.
'empty' means to remove the middle letters.
'wolfs' is an insertion indicator (inserted letters are wolfed down or eaten).
'venison' becomes 'deer' (venison is deer meat).
'that's turned' is a reversal indicator.
'guy' with its middle taken out is 'gy'.
'deer' written backwards gives 'reed'.
'gy' placed around 'reed' is 'GREEDY'.

(Other definitions for greedy that I've seen before include "Gluttonous" , "Covetous, avaricious" , "Keen" , "Starving" , "Over-desirous of food" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
