Rebellion allowed to make two-lined verse (7)
I believe the answer is:
couplet
'verse' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'rebellion allowed to' is the wordplay.
'rebellion' becomes 'coup' (I've seen this in another clue).
'allowed to' becomes 'let' (to let something happen is to allow it).
'coup'+'let'='COUPLET'
'make two-lined' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for couplet that I've seen before include "piece of poetry" , "bit of poetry" , "Pair of lines in poetry" , "Two lines of verse, often rhyming" , "Pair of verse lines" .)
