Crossword Genius

Recalled Mexican food consumed in the Spanish place (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

locate

'place' is the definition.
(I know that place can be written as locate)

'recalled mexican food consumed in the spanish' is the wordplay.
'recalled' says the letters should be written backwards (to recall can mean to bring something back).
'mexican food' becomes 'taco' (type of Mexican snack).
'consumed in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'the spanish' becomes 'el' ('the' in Spanish).
'taco' placed inside 'el' is 'etacol'.
'etacol' written backwards gives 'LOCATE'.

(Other definitions for locate that I've seen before include "Find out where something is" , "Discover the exact position of" , "Find or situate" , "site" , "Discover the position of something" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
