Record by Queen? (6)

I believe the answer is:
potato
'queen?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.
'record by' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'by' could be 'at' and 'at' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for potato that I've seen before include "Root crop" , "The vegetable is just too pat" , "French wine region" , "King Edward, for example" , "The vegetable is too apt, oddly" .)
