Ross

I believe the answer is:

entertainer

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'performer' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'record single penned by hit queen' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'record' could be 'enter' ('enter' can be a synonym of 'record') and 'enter' is present in the answer.
'single' could be 'i' (one) and 'i' is present in the answer.
'hit' could be 'tan' and 'tan' is present in the remaining letters.
'queen' could be 'er' (abbreviation for Elizabeth Regina) and 'er' is found in the answer.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for entertainer that I've seen before include "Performer" , "comic perhaps" , "Eg, singer or comedian" , "Variety artist" , "Provider of amusement" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
