Refuse to go back to bed before knight returns (6)
I believe the answer is:
debris
'refuse' is the definition.
(both can mean rubbish)
'before knight returns' is the wordplay.
'before' becomes 'deb' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'knight' becomes 'sir' (a knight has the title Sir).
'returns' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'sir' reversed gives 'ris'.
'deb'+'ris'='DEBRIS'
'to go back to bed' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. Some or all of it may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for debris that I've seen before include "Rebids for rubble" , "Detritus, rubbish" , "Scattered wreckage" , "Scattered broken pieces, rubble" , "Brides with pieces of rubble" .)
