Relax, everyone - don't start to differ (9)

I believe the answer is:
alleviate
'relax' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both related to bodily activities as well as being verbs in their base form.
Maybe you can see an association between them that I don't see?
'everyone don't start to differ' is the wordplay.
'everyone' becomes 'all' (all people).
'don't start' means to remove the first letter.
'to differ' becomes 'deviate' (deviating is a kind of differing).
'deviate' with its first letter taken off is 'eviate'.
'all'+'eviate'='ALLEVIATE'
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for alleviate that I've seen before include "Make light" , "Assuage" , "Relieve" , "moderate" , "To mollify" .)
