Crossword Genius

Relaxed-sounding, select member of order (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

carmelite

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'relaxed-sounding' is the definition.
I can't judge whether this defines the answer.

'select member of order' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'select' could be 'elite' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'elite' is found within the answer.
'member' could be 'arm' (member can mean a limb) and 'arm' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'c' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for carmelite that I've seen before include "Friar or nun of particular order" , "Prayer" , "Sister" , "Does Mal recite about the monk?" , "member of religious order" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
