Crossword Genius

Remove from the seat and confuse a French player first (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

unsaddle

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'remove from the seat' is the definition.
'unsaddle' can be an answer for 'remove' (thesaurus). I am unsure of the 'from the seat' bit.

'confuse a french player first' is the wordplay.
'confuse' becomes 'addle' (addling is a kind of confusing).
'a french player' becomes 'uns' (I can't justify this - if you can you should believe this answer much more).
'first' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'addle' put after 'uns' is 'UNSADDLE'.

'and' is the link.

(Other definitions for unsaddle that I've seen before include "What to do after ride" , "Dislodge a horse rider from their seat" , "Remove the seat from a horse" , "Throw" , "get kit off in stable" .)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
