Crossword Genius

Repeat aloud name supporting engineers (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

recite

'repeat aloud' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'name supporting engineers' is the wordplay.
'name' becomes 'cite' (I've seen this in other clues**).
'supporting' says to put letters next to each other (in a down clue, some letters go below others).
'engineers' becomes 're' (Royal Engineers).
'cite' after 're' is 'RECITE'.

(Other definitions for recite that I've seen before include "Declaim, recount" , "Ire etc (anag)" , "Give detailed account" , "Repeat aloud from memory, say a poem" , "Repeat aloud form memory( 6)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
