Ross

I believe the answer is:

officer

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This clue might be a double definition.

'rice' is the first definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how one could define the other.

'for constable?' is the second definition.
(police officer)

'perhaps' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for officer that I've seen before include "Person with authority in the forces" , "One with commission" , "'An ... and a Gentleman, film (7)'" , "eg Colonel" , "Member of the armed forces in position of authority" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
