Crossword Genius

Rich water source racket (4-2-2)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

well-to-do

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'rich' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'water source racket' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'water' could be 'well' (well water is a kind of water) and 'well' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'todo' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for well-to-do that I've seen before include "'Prosperous, wealthy (4-2-2)'" , "Rich; old towel (anag.)" , "Moderately wealthy" , "Affluent" , "Comfortably off" .)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
