Ross

I believe the answer is:

ascent

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'rising' is the definition.
(thesaurus)

'like us currency' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'like' could be 'as' and 'as' is present in the answer.
'currency' could be 'cent' (cent is a kind of currency) and 'cent' is found within the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for ascent that I've seen before include "Incline" , "Maybe promotion" , "Uphill journey" , "way up the mountain" , "Hill" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
