Crossword Genius

Roar and rant about sons - they tell tales (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

narrators

'they tell tales' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'roar and rant about sons' is the wordplay.
'and' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'about' indicates an anagram.
'sons' becomes 's'.
'roar' after 'rant' is 'rantroar'.
'rantroar' is an anagram of 'narrator'.
'narrator'+'s'='NARRATORS'

(Other definitions for narrators that I've seen before include "tale-tellers" , "Storytellers" , "Tellers of tales" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
