Crossword Genius

Rogue's trick with penny (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

scamp

'rogue's' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)

'trick with penny' is the wordplay.
'trick' becomes 'scam' (I've seen this before).
'with' says to put letters next to each other.
'penny' becomes 'p' (short for pence).
'scam'+'p'='SCAMP'

(Other definitions for scamp that I've seen before include "Scoundrel" , "Impish youngster" , "Troublemaker" , "Little Devil" , "little monkey" .)

I've seen this clue in The Sun and The Independent.
