Crossword Genius

Roman palace in more recent article (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

lateran

'roman palace' is the definition.
(palace of the Lateranus family in ancient Rome)

'more recent article' is the wordplay.
'more recent' becomes 'later' ('late' can be similar in meaning to 'recent').
'article' becomes 'an' (indefinite article).
'later'+'an'='LATERAN'

'in' is the link.

(Other definitions for lateran that I've seen before include "Of a particular Roman district; an alert, anag." , "St. John -- is the cathedral of Rome" , "treaty?" , "Palace" , "of a Roman cathedral" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
