Crossword Genius

Romeo leaves his love half naked in a cell (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

amoeba

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This clue could be a double definition.

'romeo leaves his love half naked' is the first definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how one could define the other.

'a cell' is the second definition.
The definition and answer can be both animals as well as being singular nouns.
Perhaps there's an association between them I don't understand?

'in' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for amoeba that I've seen before include "Unicellular organism" , "Microscopic organism of single cell that changes shape constantly" , "Basic life form" , "parasitic type" , "Microscopic organism of single cell constantly changing shape" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
