Route change avoiding the central part (5)
I believe the answer is:
outer
'part' is the definition.
(I have seen 'part of target' mean 'outer' so perhaps 'part' could also mean 'outer')
'route change' is the wordplay.
'change' indicates an anagram.
'route' with letters rearranged gives 'OUTER'.
'avoiding the central' is the link.
This may not be correct. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for outer that I've seen before include "Route (anag.)" , "Ring for double scores on a dartboard" , "Surrounding" , "Objective" , "Outside; external" .)
