Routine combining house and funk
I believe the answer is:
ho-hum
'routine' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'house and funk' is the wordplay.
'house' becomes 'ho' (abbreviation for house).
'and' is a charade indicator (letters next to each other).
'funk' becomes 'hum' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'ho'+'hum'='HO-HUM'
'combining' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. It may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for ho-hum that I've seen before include "Nothing special" , "Interjection" , "Exclamation to express resignation or boredom" , "Expression of a yawn or indication of boredom" , "Routine" .)
