Run in each crook carrying thiamine (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

aneurin

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'thiamine' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'run in each crook' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'run' could be 'r' (cricket abbreviation) and 'r' is found within the answer.
'in' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'carrying' is the link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for aneurin that I've seen before include "Name of former Minister for Health" , "Famous Welsh politician" , "-Bevan, NHS founder" , "Thiamine" , "-- Bevan, Labour statesman" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
