Crossword Genius

Sail in front of dishonest judge, interrupting what he’s telling? (6,3)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

flying jib

'sail in front' is the definition.
(type of sail)

'dishonest judge interrupting what he's telling?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'dishonest' could be 'lying' (synonyms) and 'lying' is found in the answer.
'judge' could be 'j' (abbreviation for judge) and 'j' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'fib' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'of' acts as a link.

(Another definition for flying jib that I've seen is " bit of rigging".)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
