Crossword Genius

Samples last of fragrant flowers (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

tasters

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'samples' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.

'last of fragrant flowers' is the wordplay.
'last of' suggests the final letters.
'flowers' becomes 'asters' (aster is a type of flower).
The last letter of 'fragrant' is 't'.
't'+'asters'='TASTERS'

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for tasters that I've seen before include "Experiences" , "just a little of each" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
