Crossword Genius

Scions of last of famous Victorians? (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

sprigs

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'scions' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I don't see how one could define the other.

'last of famous victorians?' is the wordplay.
'last of' says to take the final letters.
'victorians?' becomes 'prigs' (I've seen this in another clue).
The last letter of 'famous' is 's'.
's'+'prigs'='SPRIGS'

'of' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for sprigs that I've seen before include "Spray of leaves or flowers" , "Small stems or shoots" , "Small stems bearing leaves or flowers" , "Sprays of leaves or flowers" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
