Crossword Genius

Scolding for getting the rope all tangled up (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

reproof

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'scolding for' is the definition.
(I know that objurgation is a type of reproof)

'the rope all tangled up' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
an anagram of 'rope' is 'epro' which is located in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

'getting' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for reproof that I've seen before include "blame" , "Scolding" , "Censure" , "Once more get water-resistant" , "Dressing down" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
