Scottish exclamation or owl noises (5)
I believe the answer is:
hoots
'owl noises' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'scottish exclamation' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'exclamation' could be 'o' and 'o' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'hots' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'or' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for hoots that I've seen before include "Owl noises" , "Cries of contempt" , "Owl calls" , "Owls' noises" , "Jeers" .)
