Crossword Genius

Scottish island's so typical of a long-ago time (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

jurassic

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'time' is the definition.
(I know that Jurassic is a geological period)

'scottish island's so typical of a long-ago' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'island's' could be 'juras' and 'juras' is found in the answer.
'so' could be 'sic' ('so' in Latin) and 'sic' is found within the answer.
This accounts for all the letters.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for jurassic that I've seen before include "'... Park', novel/film about dinosaurs" , "-- Park, 1993 film" , "Of the period when the largest dinosaurs roamed the earth" , "period in past" , "From ancient time (like Spielberg's park)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Guardian.
