Screen upcoming Othello , say, where people go? (9)
I believe the answer is:
cloakroom
'where people go?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how they can define each other.
'screen upcoming othello' is the wordplay.
'screen' becomes 'cloak' (I've seen this before).
'upcoming' says the letters should be written in reverse (in a down clue coming up is backwards).
'othello' becomes 'moor' (Shakespeare's Othello is a Moor).
'moor' written backwards gives 'room'.
'cloak'+'room'='CLOAKROOM'
'say' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for cloakroom that I've seen before include "Place to leave hats and coats" , "In which coats are left, temporarily" , "Euphemism for lavatory" , "Room for outer garments" .)
