Crossword Genius

Seat of learning (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

chair

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

This might be a double definition.

'seat' is the first definition.
(I know that seat can be written as chair)

'learning' is the second definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how one could define the other.

'of' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for chair that I've seen before include "Single seat" , "Head of a university faculty or department" , "See 4" , "Top seat of committee" , "Academic position" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish News, The Globe and Mail and The Irish Independent.
