See the old folks behind bars (5)
I believe the answer is:
caged
'behind bars' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'see the old' is the wordplay.
'see' becomes 'C' (the word for the letter, according to Chambers).
'the old' becomes 'aged' (I've seen this in another clue).
'c'+'aged'='CAGED'
'folks' is the link.
I am not very happy about this link. It may be part of another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for caged that I've seen before include "In a zoo?" , "Confined behind bars" , "Shut up" , "in prison" , "Cooped up" .)
