Send home from school (5)
I believe the answer is:
expel
'school' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with social activities as well as being verbs in their base form.
Maybe you can see a link between them that I can't see?
'send home from' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'from' could be 'ex' and 'ex' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for expel that I've seen before include "Eject (from school)" , "Ban from school" , "Drive away" , "Discharge in disgrace" , "Oust" .)
