I believe the answer is:

dirham

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'money' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I cannot understand how they can define each other.

'servant takes a short time to raise' is the wordplay.
'servant' becomes 'maid' (maid is a kind of servant).
'takes' is an insertion indicator.
'a short time' becomes 'hr' (short for hour).
'to raise' says the letters should be written in reverse.
'maid' going around 'hr' is 'mahrid'.
'mahrid' written backwards gives 'DIRHAM'.

(Other definitions for dirham that I've seen before include "money in Africa" , "Currency of United Arab Emirates" , "bread" , "change from Casablanca!" , "Libyan CURRENCY" .)

I've seen this clue in The Hindu.
