Setter's suggestion for bored test solver, say (8,5)
I believe the answer is:
sounding board
'setter's suggestion' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how they can define each other.
'bored test solver say' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'say' could be 'sound' (sounding is a kind of saying) and 'sound' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'for' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for sounding board that I've seen before include "Recipient of experimental ideas perhaps" , "Means of testing opinion" , "means of testing idea" , "One whose opinion is sought" .)
