Share of profits below expected value (7)
I believe the answer is:
partake
'share' is the definition.
(I know that partake is a more specific form of share)
'profits below expected value' is the wordplay.
'profits' becomes 'take' (I've seen this in another clue).
'below' means one lot of letters go next to another (in a down clue, some letters go below others).
'expected value' becomes 'par' (par value is a kind of value. I am not sure about the 'expected' bit.).
'take' put after 'par' is 'PARTAKE'.
'of' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for partake that I've seen before include "Be involved" , "Share, consume" , "Take a share in, say eating" , "try a few?" , "To take some (of food, etc)" .)
