Crossword Genius

Short wolfish one maybe found in bed (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

lupin

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'one maybe found in bed' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how one could define the other.

'short wolfish' is the wordplay.
'short' means to remove the last letter.
'wolfish' becomes 'lupine' (I've seen this before).
'lupine' with its final letter taken away is 'LUPIN'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for lupin that I've seen before include "Colourful plant of pea family" , "Fodder plant" , "Spiky flower" , "bloomer" , "Flower of pea family" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
