Shouted when the weather turned nasty? (6)
I believe the answer is:
hailed
'shouted' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both to do with communicating as well as being past participle verbs.
Maybe you can see a link between them that I can't see?
'when the weather turned nasty?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'when' could be 'e' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'e' is present in the answer.
'weather' could be 'hail' (hail is a kind of weather) and 'hail' is found in the answer.
A single letter 'd' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for hailed that I've seen before include "Greeted or sginalled to" , "Called, a cab say" , "Called out to attract attention" , "Called to or summoned - say taxi" , "Signalled and summoned, say a taxi" .)
