Showed a fondness for getting in touch (6)

I believe the answer is:
kissed
'showed a fondness for' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are past participle verbs, I cannot see how they can define each other.
'in touch' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'touch' could be 'kiss' (kiss is a kind of touch) and 'kiss' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ed' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'getting' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for kissed that I've seen before include "Touched with lips" , "Osculated" , "Bussed" , "Touched lightly" , "slightly touched" .)
